Characterisation of mortarless refractory masonry joints under elevated temperatures

Refractory linings are commonly employed in Industrial vessels used high-temperature processes to protect them against extreme working environments. The lining of an industrial steel ladle frequently employs mortarless refractory masonry contain the molten and limit heat losses. Such undergoes high thermomechanical loads, primarily due thermal expansion arising from mechanical boundary conditions. Dry joints, described as a physical break continuum, reduce some these effects. Therefore, understanding dry joints is essential factor for developing numerical constitutive models that employ meso or macro modelling approach. This work aims experimentally investigate normal compressive behaviour masonry. For this purpose, various specimens alumina-spinel material tested ambient temperature 1200 °C. results obtained experiments then identify critical joint parameters with different mathematical interface. outcome describes exponential closing respect force applied. It was observed pressure required close reduces increase temperature. model numerically simulate closure Finally, experimental were compared.
